He is considered the first settler of the town and later became the postmaster. In 1819, a pair of twin brothers purchased 4,000 acres of land. They then sold tracts of land to other settlers for low prices to attract them to the area. The twins offered 6 acres of land to build a public square and 20 dollars to support the town’s first school on the condition that the town changed its name from Millsville to Twinsburg.
